The retreat manor
Located near Bogotá, the chapel is part of a retreat complex for a religious community. The main building of the complex is an existing manor that offers basic accommodation and services for visitors. The new building is part of an upgrade on the services of the manor. In addition to the new pavilion, the chapel creates a specialized space for religious activities and services.
New religious axis
The retreat complex has a central axis that connects a natural trail in the mountain containing the stations of the way of the cross with the existing manor. The chapel is placed at the end of it, on the north side of the manor, strengthening this sacred axis
Activating the plaza
The original main entrance of the existing manor was in disuse. Visitors were accessing from behind, through the access closer to the parking lot. The chapel, along with the new pavilion and the existing restaurant, restitute the central character of the original entrance, creating a civic plaza.
The plaza is an extension area for the chapel and its communal activities
The chapel takes the visitor through the dim void to the lighted worship space
The chapel's belfry and cross are small landmarks on the landscape dialoguing with nature
The columns follow the stations of the way of the cross
