From Traffic to Community: A Pedestrians-First Urban Transformation
Los Gemelos Park and Sports Module unites two public space blocks by suppressing the road that once separated them. The park now features two soccer fields, two multipurpose courts, a jogging track, and a children's play area. A 108-meter-long concrete pergola covers the main pedestrian street, while a coliseum over one of the multipurpose courts provides additional shade and protection from both rain and sunlight. The project emphasizes vegetation to enhance comfort and usability.
Covered Pedestrian Street
The pedestrian street features an artificial topography between the soccer fields, creating seating stands on both sides that offer protection from both sun and rain. The covered street guarantees usability during the day with shade, and during the night, with artificial lighting. The gentle slopes also serve as a playscape for children and young adults.
Soccer Fields
The design preserves the recently refurbished synthetic grass soccer field and introduces a new one opposite the pedestrian street. This addition creates more space for sports activities and attracts more visitors, enhancing the park's functionality.
Covered Coliseum
A multipurpose court is introduced, featuring a naturally ventilated façade that shields users from direct sunlight. The prefabricated concrete latticework allows for a refreshing flow of air and light, making it a versatile space for both sports and community events.
The Oasis Playscape
The park incorporates a new urban forest with large trees and an oasis-like atmosphere. This green space includes children's playground and calisthenics spaces, utilizing vegetation to provide optimal comfort and shade. These features make this area of the park have a cooler and more inviting atmosphere.
