The new building for University College Groningen will serve many users. It will inspire, challenge and provoke discovery.
A historical, transparent, and energy-efficient building, which is characterized by customization in combination with a flexible design.
The former Physiology building (1911), designed by Architect J.A.W. Vrijman, will be renovated and made more sustainable. A new three-story wooden structure with large glass facades adds structure and functionality.
The minimalist and honest architecture creates a timeless icon with a modest palette of colors and materials. Merging old and new, the city and the campus, student and teacher, history and future.
The top floor, with its beautiful 360-degree view of the city, will offer peace and quiet.
The ground floor is designed for unexpected encounters and inspiration.
The roof of the old building will be made suitable as a large outdoor terrace. Once completed, UCG students and staff will feel as if the new building has always been there.
